Mission Statement
The Invisible Woman Foundation's mission is to shed light on discrimination against Black women in the healthcare system.
In the United States, death by pregnancy-related causes is three to four times more likely in Black women than it is in white women. While the exact reasons for this are debated by doctors around the world, it all comes down to one thing: Black women are not taken seriously by medical professionals. A demographic that has been ignored and oppressed for centuries is still being let down by the medical community. Black women are not seen or cared for by their doctors, the very people responsible for taking care of them. The Invisible Woman Foundation works to shed light on this issue and change the legislature to protect and fight for Black women. We also want to provide Black women with the resources with which to fight for themselves. Through legislative and social change, we will turn the tide and demand that these invisible women be seen.
Legislation
We are currently working on passing legislation regarding maternal mortality in Black women. This is a picture of our founder/executive director with Texas House Rep. Carl Sherman.
Reaching out to members of our community helps raise awareness of the problems being faced and garner support.
Amplifying Voices
Capturing the stories of women that have gone unheard for too long is important in addition to fighting for change.
Knowledge is power. Educating our community is the first step to fixing the problem.
